Gold STARS

Thursdays 7:00-7:45pm

Award Level 3 of our STAR Citizen Training Scheme.

The course is aimed at all dogs, there is no age limit.

Dogs must have completed Silver STARS to join.

Gold STARS provides Guardians with a greater knowledge and understanding of their canine companion.

Dogs who successfully complete the course are encouraged to continue their learning in the Super STARS course and/or Rally STARS.

More About This Course

The gold award is the highest level of achievement within our STAR Citizen Training scheme. It builds upon the skills learnt in Silver STARS and develops more advanced training skills of the dog and handler. The course introduces new concepts such as sending a dog to bed, relaxed isolation, an emergency stop and heelwork off the lead, all of which provide greater understanding and control.

The 6 week course will cover:

• Walk free beside Guardian
• Stop the dog
• Return to Guardian's side
• Relaxed settle
• Send the dog to bed
• Stay down in one place
• Food manners
• Road walk
• Examination of the dog
• Responsibility and care (covering health, worming, country code, laws, frightening, out of control and barking, the psychology of learning)

Guardians must show that they have means of cleaning up after their dog and that they have proper identification. It is a legal requirement to inscribe the name and the address of the owner on the collar or on a plate or disc attached to it. Dogs are also required to have a microchip which is registered on a Defra-approved database, in the UK.
