Puppy Foundation Classes
Thursdays 7:00-7:45pm.
- 6 different classes. Complete all 6 classes to achieve award.
- Start anytime.
- Flexible pay as you go per class or pay for the full 6 class course and get a 10% discount.
- Nationally recognised Kennel Club Good Citizen Puppy Foundation Award.
- Puppies must be under 12 months old to be assessed for the Kennel Club Award.
- Puppies must have had their first vaccination and have been cleared by their vet before attending class.
This course lays the foundations for early learning and assists new puppy parents in understanding basic training techniques.
More About This Course
Our KC Puppy Foundation course comprises of 6 classes, is open to all puppies, pedigree or crossbreed, and teaches you how to train your puppy for everyday life situations. Upon completing all 6 classes, you will have had the opportunity to be assessed for the nationally recognised Kennel Club Good Citizen Puppy Foundation award.
This course aims to provide a means of socialising puppies and to lay down a foundation for education and training.
The full 6 class course covers:
- Basic puppy positions (sit, down, stand)
- Puppy recall
- Walking nicely on a lead
- Taking items away from the puppy
- Food manners
- Attentive response to name
- Play
- Jumping up
- Stay for approximately 10 seconds
- Socialisation with a placid dog unknown to the puppy
- Socialisation with an adult person unknown to the puppy
- Socialisation with noise distraction
- Practicing for vet handling and grooming
- Cleanliness and identification
- Responsibility and care (recognition of basic health problems, health protection for the puppy, teething, chewing and daily routine, house training and separation anxiety, socialisation with people and other dogs)
Puppies who successfully complete the course are encouraged to continue their learning in the KC GCDTS Bronze Award.
